Futures Drop after US airstrike on Iran's top military leader
The U.S. announced late Thursday that it had killed Iran’s top commander, Gen. Qasem Soleimani, in Baghdad in an airstrike. Soleimani had been a key figure in Iranian politics, and his death has raised concerns over a potential retaliation from the Iranian forces.

Oil prices surge after US kills Iran’s top commander, Brent crude nears $70 a barrel
International benchmark Brent crude surged toward $70 a barrel during early morning trading, before paring gains to trade around $68.82.
U.S. West Texas Intermediate gained $2.24, or 3.7%, to trade at $63.42. Earlier in the session it hit its highest level since April.
General Qasem Soleimani, who led a special forces unit of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards, was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad, the Pentagon confirmed on Thursday night.
